The wine road excursion combines visits to wineries, a vineyard, a wine museum and the glorious Rhodes scenery. Two excursions in one!!
Wine production has been documented on the island Rhodes for over 2400 years.
A very old variety of white grape called Athiri, is grown on lower slopes below the town of Embona. The higher mountain regions around this area produce a better quality of red grape.
Cair and Emery are the two major wineries on the island. Both of these offer a selection of quality wines for tasting and purchasing.
Our tour starts by heading to the north west of the island to the original Cair wine factory in Soroni. Built in 1927, it is now home to their comprehensive wine museum. From here, we take a short journey to a family run winery and vineyard. In the heart of the vineyard you will have some wine tasting opportunities followed by lunch in this idyllic setting.
A delicious Greek Meze lunch is included in the price.
Working our way further south down the west coast to Embona, the heart of the grape growing region of Rhodes. As we enter Embona, we will visit one of the smaller wineries to sample a selection of a dozen wines and a walnut liqueur and to hear and see more about the production process.
As an added bonus, you will be able to get up close to some baby Rhodian deer. There are thousands of deer on the island but you rarely get to see them.
The remainder of this tour will take you back across the picturesque central area of the island before returning to your accommodation around 16.30
